How to issue

Fundamental to ASX’s role as a market operator is to operate a fair, orderly and transparent market. The rules framework ASX has established is integral to ensuring this obligation is met.

Understanding ASX Rules

Issuing investment products on ASX is governed either through the Listing Rules or AQUA Rules (which are contained within ASX’s Operating Rules).

ASX Listing Rules

The Listing Rules cover most of the key equity listings on the ASX market including shares, REITs, infrastructure funds and listed investment companies and trusts. These are disclosure-based rules which govern admission, quotation and removal of entities from the official list. Importantly, the rules impose continuous and periodic disclosure obligations on issuers.

AQUA Rules

The AQUA Rules (Schedule 10A to the ASX Operating Rules) are specifically designed for ‘open-ended’ investment schemes such as, Managed Funds, ETFs and structured products that do not fit easily under the Listing Rules or the Warrant Rules. The AQUA Rules have been designed to offer greater flexibility for issuers in designing products and having them quoted on ASX, which results in greater product choice for investors.

Exchange Traded Products

Exchange Traded Products admitted on ASX include Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), Exchange Traded Managed Funds (ETMFs) and structured products.

Unlisted Managed Funds

ASX’s mFund Settlement Service enables investors to buy, hold and sell units in unlisted managed funds via their broker.

Listed Investment Companies & Trusts

LICs and LITs are admitted under the ASX Listing Rules similarly to listed companies.

Warrants

Warrants are instruments issued by banks and other financial institutions where the value is linked to underlying shares, indices, currencies or commodities.
